Boy and their toys

Frank: It’s so nice to have brothers who have toys. Yesterday we spent the day on the ultimate toy, Scott and Linda’s boat (yacht) named ScotLin Yard. We went from Woodbridge, VA, to Old Town Alexandria by water. On the way we met brother, Guy, on his boat with his family heading the other direction. My Virginia brothers all have boats, Kim would have been out there with his, but he was on board with us. When we arrived at the dock in Old Town where Scott had reserved a slip for us the dock kids (attendants) knew the boat and Scotty and Linda by sight. I think that’s slick. We walked around Old Town for awhile, did some window shopping and then had lunch at O’Connell’s Pub. The food was good and the little waitress from Romania was a lot of fun and very helpful, taking pictures of us and attending to our every whim.

On the way back to Woodbridge Cheryl goaded Scotty into showing off his boat. It’s a big boat some 40 feet long with four propellers that sit in pods under the center of the boat and rotate 360 degrees. He can literally make the boat pirouette in place making full circles and dancing it to the left and right like a ballerina which is appropriate because that is what his wife is (a ballerina, I mean). We got back about five to rescue the puppies, had a light dinner, did a Netflicks download and watched Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil with Betty and Greg which was appropriate because our next stop on the trip will be Savannah, Georgia.

Cheryl: Scott took the boat into a series of sweeping turns, and we did some wave jumping to satisfy my request to show off his boat. Then, at the dock in Alexandria he maneuvered the boat into the slip like a pro. I loved sitting up front next to the captain’s chair in the draft from the air conditioner while watching first the shoreline out front of us and then the churning water behind the boat. What luxury to be out of the hot sun and spray, but still able to enjoy the sensations of being aboard a craft racing over the water. We passed such landmarks as Mount Vernon and Fort Washington, then glided under the new Woodrow Wilson Bridge into port at Alexandria.

After lunch we ambled down the streets of Alexandria, a place Frank and I hadn’t been in at least 30 years. It’s still the sweetest little town with compelling storefronts along every inch. We wandered into a costume jewelry shop where Betty, Linda, and I had a blast looking at enormous hoop earrings and all kinds of bangles and beads. The “boys,” in the meantime sauntered down the street to a store they said had guy stuff. I, in my innocence, figured they had found a swanky hardware store, but no, they spent the time while we were in the jewelry store in an adult “fantasy” shop hee-hawing over the sex toys. Of course, we girls, not to be outdone, ended up in a sexy lingerie store and then took a gander in the adult shop. We couldn’t believe this shop had three floors full of all kinds of stuff we had never imagined existed. Who buys this stuff? Anyway, we had some laughs before walking back to the boat for the trip back to Belmont Bay in Woodbridge. Relaxing in front of a movie in the evening in Greg and Betty’s spacious house made for a perfect ending to a great day on the river.
