Visiting the Old South

Cheryl: We're staying at a nice KOA in Fayettville, North Carolina, tonight and will head for Charleston, South Carolina, in the morning. We'll stay two nights in the Mount Pleasant KOA near Charleston and see the sights by carriage tour. Then the plan is to spent the next two night seeing Savannah, Georgia, while staying at the South Point KOA nearby.

We spent a great day on Thursday in Alexandria visiting with Frank's old workmate from System Technologies Associates and his wife. We ate at Bertucci's Italian Restaurant and then walked down to the waterfront to tour the old Torpedo Factory. This large three-stoy building now houses artists in residence and their studio displays of all kinds of artwork for sale. I bought a couple of ceramic heart-shaped vases made by David Norton that mount on the wall and hold water for small flower displays. We also found a display of artifacts taken from a dig in the area that dated from the civil war era.

The WWII Torpedo Factory used to manufacture torpedos and some say the unarmed ones were tested in the Potamc River. They had one of them displayed in the lobby.

Frank spent all day Friday working with his brother Guy and Guy Jr. on the Triumph motorcycle that had miraculously started the first time Frank touched it on Wednesday. However, that proved to be only the beginning of a long list of problems that were finally resolved on Friday.

This morning we spent putting the trailer back in travelin' shape, said our goodbyes to Betty and Greg, packed up the pups, and here we are several hours later in North Carolina. Tomorrow there will be carriage rides and mansion tours as promised.

Love and hugs from, Rhett, Scarlett, and the pups
